ANZAC Poem

ANZAC Day is a national holiday in Australia. We commemorate the soldiers that went to war by stopping for one minute in silence to remember the soldiers that gave us freedom and gave up their lives.

Here is a poem I wrote from the point of view of an ANZAC soldier in Gallipoli:

I understand this is not an adventure but I can’t back out so fast.
I dream to come home to my family with peace and love in the world.
I try to understand what my parents must be thinking.
I hope I don’t get hurt in this horrible experience.
I pretend to be fine, but really I’m scared and will be scarred for life.
I feel like crying but I know that I have to stay strong.
I worry we won’t make it through.
I cry, “Don’t let everyone down,” over and over to myself.
I see an explosion far east, “They’re coming!” I hear everyone shout.
I want to go home and see my happy family again.
I am an ANZAC soldier.
Do you have any family members that where in the war? What were there role?
